Walker County Appraisal District Tax Parcels

The Walker County Appraisal District (Walker CAD) attempts to: 1) identify all real and personal property, and 2) then value each parcel. Their primary mission is to divide the property taxes paid to entities in the county as accurately and equitably as possible. Walker County Appraisal District had 41,248 tax parcels in 2021 and 7 appraisers to value them and conduct tax protest hearings. That works out to 5,893 tax parcels per appraiser.

Walker County Appraisal District has a lean level of staffing. We estimate about 25% of appraisal district appraisers work on valuation while the balance work on measuring new property and other inspections. We further assume the appraisers have 3 months or 66 days to complete valuations. Based on these assumptions, an appraiser at Walker County Appraisal District completes 357 valuations per day during the valuation period. The Walker County Appraisal District is required to provide a value for all real property and business personal property in Walker County annually.
